UPDATES ON START-UP

As we progress on our regulatory approval journey we will provide updates here. Right now we are working with the lawyers, the accountants, and the financiers to put this together. The next step is for the lawyers to start working with the regulators of this so we can really get off the ground.

GEAR FOR GROWING

This part of our website will be where you can order your gear from. We plan on offering soil mixtures, grow lights, watering systems, containers and micro greenhouses. We also plan to offer everything at our cost but only sell to Fostering Households. You wont be able to buy from us if you are not fostering.

Delivery will only happen when we are doing a regular drop off- pick up so we wont be making special deliveries just for gear.

We have been asked if you can use Doobie Dollars for paying for the gear and have been advised at this point that it looks unlikely we can do that as we are already working in an area that is stretching the minds of the regulators.

So watch this space for our little store!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

From our short period when we had our registration open, we received  a lot of questions. Most of them all came back to the five listed here. The responses we are showing are just preliminary and a lot of detail will be added as we go, including our full Growing Guide.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE FOUR PLANTS TO BE READY TO BE PICKED UP AND REPLACED?

There are a lot of factors here – soil, lighting, plant type etc.  The even bigger factor however is whether you are a dedicated grower or a passive grower. Plants love moisture and light and not everyone can offer the plants exactly what they need for ideal growing. Our Growing Guide helps with this and we are working on its content. We are also working up a table to let you know how long it takes depending on which direction your plants are facing to get sunlight and whether you are using an additional light. Sorry this is so general but we are working on the detail.

HOW MUCH CREDIT DO I GET FOR EVERY FOUR PLANTS I FOSTER?

We have some very specific targets and some minimums that are needed to make this work but are also just at the stage of negotiating with the big guys who will be taking the plants for processing and providing the credits at their retail locations for us to then pass on to you as Doobie Dollars. We expect to have an answer on this soon.

WHAT DO I NEED TO GET SET UP IF I AM ONLY GROWING THE FOUR PLANTS?

We are not trying to hype this up so we suggest that you just start with a good soil mixture, a few different size pots so you can move the plants up in pot size as needed, and a spray bottle for misting. See how it goes and then read our Grow Guide and decide if you would like to move up to a grow lamp, and after that an auto-watering system, or a micro greenhouse to keep that moisture in. We have found a really cool one that we will be offering in our Gear For Growing section.

IS THIS A FRANCHISE THAT I CAN PARTICIPATE IN AND OWN A CERTAIN AREA?

We are still figuring this out but the initial response from the finance guys is that they don’t think it is suitable as a franchise arrangement.

THIS SEEMS LIKE ITS ON THE EDGE OF THE RULES – IS IT LEGAL?

Good question. And nicely put! Yes it is on the edge of the rules but the reason we are taking our time in setting it up properly and getting the right corporate structure, regulatory approvals etc. is so it will be legal. When we were in high school we lived in the basement of our parents home and that was ok, but we are not keen on sharing a  jail cell!

REGISTRATION

A short while ago, when we set up this website this is where Fostering Households could register to express interest in the service. It was to start to get a list going to ramp up, but also to gauge the market so we could show the financiers we could do this. We were overwhelmed by the response.

Now that we are further into the corporate stuff, regulatory approvals and legal mischief we  have been told by the lawyers we should stop taking registrations until all our approvals are in place.

So drop back to the site and watch this space because as soon as we have those approvals we will be opening up registration on this part of the website again, and will be doing some postings for hiring as well!

WHO WE ARE

We are cannabis aficionados and have been for some time. We are Alco and Willi Galosh.

Before we tell you more about this endeavor and our background, we should respond to the questions we usually get about our names. Our dad was from the Ottawa Valley which straddles Ontario and Quebec, and he brought the delightful surname of Galosh to the table. Our mom has a background from the U.K. and had her heart set on naming us after her dad and grandfather – Malcolm and Willard. Neither of these names were very popular in elementary school so parts were dropped to make them Alco and Willi. Still pretty out-there names but an improvement. The surname has been both a burden and a joy at times, especially when we are together, and people have a good chuckle and seem to think it is the first time we have been referred to as “a pair of Galoshes”.

Many years ago, we discovered that we had very few skills other than partying and roofing. When we first fell out of high school, we set up and ran for many years a little roofing company in Ottawa called ROOFER MADNESS. Then we got it in our heads that we should go to a bigger market and moved to Scarborough. For those who don’t know it, Scarborough is a neighbourhood in Toronto. Today people know it as the place where The Weeknd, Lilly Singh and other trendy creatures grew up but we identify it more with one of its first celebrities- Mike Myers.

We would take on easy roofing jobs, bungalows with almost flat rooflines mainly, and for some time had a pretty good life going. Then in February of 2020 Willi fell off a roof that was much higher than the ones we usually take on. He was a bit stoned at the time of course, and fell on the table we set up for munchies and  music. He really messed up the table, the food, the music and his back.

Fortunately, the Canadian Government stepped in just after that with the income replacement programs for people unemployed because of Covid and we could spend some time determining what our next venture would be.

Willi’s back is now much better, and he can move around alright  but it will never be up to what is needed to do roofing again.

What we came up with  as a replacement for ROOFER MADNESS, is a business relating to a field  we know something about – marijuana.

You can read the details in the ABOUT section. We are currently working with some advisors to get things off the ground.

ABOUT JOINT CUSTODY WEED FOSTERING

BACKGROUND

In Canada’s fairly new world of legalized marijuana sales there are three ways to produce and consume cannabis legally. The first is to be a licensed producer. Given the long-term potential there are a number of big players in the large scale production and retail distribution of the product. There has been a real shake out over the last year as various companies got ahead of themselves, but the large production companies are now all finding their rhythm.

The second category is for the medical production of the product and that is also a highly regulated business.

But the legislation that permitted the legalization also allow for each household to grow up to four plants at home for their personal consumption. Many of us are prepared to grow our own four plants and then do the associated drying and modifying to get an acceptable product to smoke. But many more are not interested in the messy middle part. That’s where we come in.

HOW IT WORKS

We supply you with four plant seedlings for your household for free. We are gearing up to sell growing kits and lights

Seedlings For Fostering

and growing material as well but you don’t have to buy those from us if you already have gear or just want to buy that elsewhere.

The four plants are not for your ultimate consumption but for you to foster until they get to a stage where they are getting close to a point when they can be harvested. You get a guide with the four plants on their care and nurturing.

We pick up those mature plants and give you four more seedlings.

Each time we drop off / pick up you receive credits (Doobie Dollars) to be used at a conventional cannabis retail store.

So you foster these plants until grown, we get them to the processors and give you a credit. You can use those credits on anything in the store – equipment, gummies, weed etc.

We are currently at the stage of dealing with the financiers, regulators, lawyers, tax accountants etc. and are taking registrations to show our finance guys that there is a market for our service. It is not a crowd sourcing funding model as we are not asking you to put in any money, just to indicate your interest in this service.

Once we get up and rolling, we will contact you to confirm that we have all the necessary approvals, and you will then have the chance to participate if you choose.
